The Heifetz 25-Year Advent Calendar

Day 3: 2011 - Colin Carr plays Bach's Chaconne...on the cello!

Welcome to December! For our final-month celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Heifetz Institute, we’ll be sharing audio, video, images, and programs from across the decades of the Institute. Check back each day from Dec. 1 – Dec. 25 as we share some memorable moments from each golden year of the Institute!

“Why on Earth would a cellist want to get up and play the Bach Chaconne?” – Colin Carr

July 28, 2011: Wolfeboro, NH

Why indeed? Heifetz institute faculty cellist Colin Carr has an answer that is both surprising and completely in keeping with the spirit of the Heifetz Institute – as true today as it was ten summers ago, when the British-born cellist dared to ascend the “Stairway to Heaven” that the transcendent Chaconne – the fifth and final movement of Bach’s solo Violin Partita No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1004 – represents to so many.  As we celebrate our Heifetz quarter-century, prepare yourself for a quarter-hour of love, loss, rage, serenity….and pure artistry, in the hands of one of the world’s great cellists!

We’re thrilled to announce that Colin Carr, known around the globe for his Bach interpretations and teachings, will be returning to the Heifetz Institute in 2022.  Check out the entire faculty listing here.
