A Heifetz alumni reunion in a single performance! Guest cellist Tommy Mesa, who has been part of the Heifetz Institute as a student, Heifetz on Tour member, Artist in Residence, and HeifetzPEG faculty member, returned to the summer Institute in 2021 to introduce a remarkable new solo cello composition, SEVEN, by fellow Heifetz alum Andrea Casarrubios. The work is one of three that Mesa, a former Sphinx Competition 1st-prize winner, commissioned from composers including Casarrubios, Stephanie Ann Boyd and Carlos Simon to reflect of their experiences in social isolation through solo cello compositions.
