Critic Norman Lebrecht observes. “As for the Vienna Philharmonic, it now has four American musicians as candidate members. Who would ever have imagined that? The most significant is the US Korean Hannah Cho, the first Asian in an orchestra that has rigidly resisted certain races and, to some extent, still does. But Hannah is a ray of light.”

–

Meet violinist Hannah Cho, the newest member of the Vienna Philharmonic!  She was in first graduating class of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra Academy, and played previously with the Vienna State Opera Orchestra.  The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra Academy was founded in the summer of 2018 to train talented young musicians in what it calls “the unique musical style of the Vienna Philharmonic.”

From her days as a #Heifetz2017 student at the Heifetz Institute, Hannah offers a gripping performance of the Poème, Op. 25, by French composer Ernest Chausson, in concert with pianist Beilin Han at Mary Baldwin University’s Francis Auditorium, the summertime home of the Heifetz Institute.
