The Heifetz 25-Year Advent Calendar

Day 1: 2004 - Daniel Heifetz and Carmen Balthrop Play, Sing, and Scat Vivaldi!

Welcome to December! For our final-month celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Heifetz Institute, we’ll be sharing audio, video, images, and programs from across the decades of the Institute. Check back each day from Dec. 1 – Dec. 25 as we share some memorable moments from each golden year of the Institute!

July 2, 2004: Wolfeboro, NH

We’re at St. Cecilia’s Church in Wolfeboro, NH for the opening Celebrity Series concert of the 2004 season, the Institute’s third summer in residence at Brewster Academy. Heifetz Institute founder Daniel Heifetz introduces and then performs with the renowned soprano Carmen Balthrop a unique interpretation of Antonio Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Violins in A minor, RV 522. Backing them up as the “orchestra” are 2004 Heifetz Institute students Anna Drobec and Stephanie Beauparlant, violins; Amanda Wilson, viola, and Marie-Michel Beauparlant, cello.

The late Carmen Balthrop (1948-2021) was a much-beloved voice and Communication Training instructor at the Heifetz Institute.  You may read Daniel Heifetz’ appreciation of Carmen here.
