2013 student and 2015 and 2016 Heifetz Institute Artist-in-Residence Katharina Kang is a veteran of many Heifetz On Tour residences, and has performed as a soloist in some of the world’s great orchestral venues, including the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow, the Bolshoi Zal (Grand Concert Hall) of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Alte Oper Frankfurt, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Her performances have been broadcast by such prestigious European broadcasters as the BBC, West German Radio, and Magyar Radio of Budapest. Katharina has worked with such notable conductors as Dmitri Kitayenko, Alondra de la Parra, Ruben Gazarian, and Neeme Järvi.

In the fall of 2015, she toured in Germany with Heifetz Institute faculty cellist Amit Peled, performing the Brahms “Double Concerto” to great acclaim. In 2014 and 2015, Katharina appeared as a Visiting-Artist-In-Residence as part of the Heifetz On Tour programs in the Shenandoah Valley, the Jamestown Arts Center in Rhode Island, and with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. In 2016, Katharina participated in the Institute’s first-ever residency in South Florida, in partnership with Saint Andrew’s School in Boca Raton, FLA.

Besides appearing as an Artist in Residence at the 2016, Katharina was also a chamber music instructor for the inaugural HeifetzPEG program, mentoring and coaching exceptionally gifted young string musicians between the ages of 8 and 13 in string quartet literature.

Born in Korea, Katherina grew up in Germany and attended the Robert Schumann Musikhochschule in Düsseldorf. She came to the US to study with Pinchas Zukerman and Heifetz faculty member Patinka Kopec at the Manhattan School of Music. After studies with Jaime Laredo at the Cleveland Institute of Music, Katharina is now returning to postgraduate study with Pinchas Zukerman at the Manhattan School of Music, this time on the viola!
