After studying with Ilona Feher\, he came to the United States to study with Efrem Zimbalist at the Curtis Institute of Music. After winning the Merriweather-Post competition and receiving Second Prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow\, Mr. Ashkenasi concertized extensively worldwide. In 1969\, he formed the famed Vermeer Quartet and remained its first violinist throughout the quartet’s 39-year career\, gaining a reputation as one of the world’s outstanding chamber musicians. Mr. Ashkenasi joined the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music in 2007\, and also teaches at Bard College. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n HEIFETZ ENSEMBLE IN RESIDENCE\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Angela Sin Ying Chan\n Violin \n Praised for her sensitivity and incredible tone\, Hong Kong-born violinist Angela Sin Ying Chan has found success both as a soloist and a chamber musician. The two-time Heifetz student\, as well as an Artist in Residence\, Heifetz on Tour and Heifetz Ensemble in Residence member\, Angela has been a top prize winner of the Singapore International Violin Competition\, Louis Spohr\, Shanghai Issac Stern\, Harbin\, Nomea\, ArsClassica\, and Michael Hill International Competitions\, and the founder of the AYA piano trio\, Angela is fast emerging as one of the most unique and polished violinists of her generation. A prize winner at the prestigious Primrose International Viola Competition\, he was also awarded top prizes at the Citta di Cremona International Viola Competition in Italy\, Vivo International Music Competition and the Art of Duo International Competition. Particularly interested in advocating viola having a solo and unique voice\, he is challenging the misperception that viola has a limited repertoire by bringing attention to the lesser-played works as well as arrangements of other masterworks. At age 10\, Andres made his first solo debuts with the Midwest Clinic of Chicago and the Ocean City Pops Orchestra\, which was followed by his Carnegie Hall debut alongside the Arconet Chamber Orchestra three years later.  An alumnus of the Heifetz Institute\, Andres has also performed as a Heifetz On Tour artist and the Heifetz Ensemble in Residence [HEIR] program. He is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music where he studied with cellist Peter Wiley and Carter Brey. She earned her Master’s degree at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University as a student of Boris Slutsky\, and completed her undergraduate studies with Alvin Chow at Oberlin Conservatory.  As winner of the Richard R. Deas Concerto Competition\, Allison has appeared as soloist with the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra. She was also named a winner of the Oberlin Concerto Competition\, and appeared as soloist with the Oberlin Orchestra.
