About Zlatomir

One of the rising young stars of the cello world at just 18 years of age, Zlatomir Fung is a 2013 Heifetz Institute alumnus, 2016, 2017, and 2019 Artist in Residence, and a frequent Heifetz On Tour performer.

In 2020, Zlatomir was awarded an Avery Fisher Career Grant, joining fellow Heifetz alumni Rachell Ellen Wong (2020), Chad Hoopes (2017), Alexi Kenney (2016), and Itamar Zorman (2013) in winning the prestigious honor.

He has already captured First Prize at numerous competitions, including the George Enescu, Johansen, Stulberg, and Irving Klein international competitions. He has been soloist with the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra, Santa Cruz Symphony, the Boston Pops, Lausanne Sinfonietta, Grand Rapids Symphony, and the New England Philharmonic.

A 2016 Presidential Scholar in the Arts, he begins studies at The Juilliard School in the fall of 2017. He has appeared on NPR’s From the Top no fewer than five times, as well as on American Public Media’s Performance Today.

Zlatomir has performed at venues such as Jordan Hall, the Tsai Performance Center, the Benedict Music Tent, Harris Hall and Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall. Recently he played solo recitals in Lisbon and Evora, Portugal. He is an avid chamber music player and he has performed with the Walden Chamber Players and the Arneis Quartet, as well as A Far Cry. Outside of music, Zlatomir enjoys philosophy and literature, and plays chess competitively.
